摘要

The capacity of carbonaceous sorbent prepared from the tree Leucaena glauca Benth was assessed for their efficiency in removal of Chromium (VI). Adsorbents were prepared by pyrolysis techniques . Characterization of carbonaceous sorbent was done and its use in removal was studied systematically in batch mode method involving process parameters such as pH, concentration, carbon dose, size and contact time. Cr (VI) was estimated by spectrophotometric method using diphenyl carbazide as reagent, in acid medium at 540 nm. The adsorption followed simple first order equation given by Lagergren and rate was controlled by intra particle diffusion process. It is concluded that pyrolysis treated L. glauca can be used as a sorbent for Cr(VI) removal.
