摘要

Characterization of normal and salt affected soils of vertisols of northern dry zone of Karnataka was studied at Kallolli, Dharwad. Salt affected soils course sand content in upper horizon was more in lower horizon and reverse trend was observed in normal soils. The clay content in salt affected soils was higher than normal soils. Percent aggregate stability of salt affected soils was lower than nonnal soils but the dispersion index and bulk density of salt affected soils was higher than nonnal soils. The hydraulic conductivity of salt affected soils reduced from surface to depth and reverse trend was noticed in nonnal soil (0.9 to 0.4 cm/h). Regarding chemical properties the soil reaction of nonnal soil adjacent to salt affected soil was lower (8.61 to 8.68 )than salt affected soil (8.61 to 9.48). The electrical conductivity of salt affected soil was high (4.92 to 0.64 dS/mt) compared to normal soil.( 0.81 to 1.69 dS/mt). The nutrient status of soil indicated in ntenns of organic carbon, available Phosphorus and Potassium were higher in normal soil than salt affected soil.
