Present study investigates the electrophoretic seed protein band pattern of Fabaceae genera collected from their natural habitats of different localities in Tamil Nadu. The results obtained showed that Cytisus monspessulanus and Pisum sativum genera showed similar band pattern. The difference among species was observed and all eight species were clearly identifiable from the protein patterns. Electrophorogram and mean Rm values obtained from cluster analysis of seed protein data showed that the examined species have displayed a number of relationships. According to the results, it is justified to recommend a wider use of electrophoretic analysis of seed storage proteins in taxonomic investigations of leguminous plants.
