Arthur Cecil Pigou

Arthur Cecil Pigou, whose name today we associate particularly with externalities, has been a fairly popular subject among historians of economics for the past decade or so. The present reviewer is one of the contributors to this recent literature, as is kindly acknowledged by the authors of this book. Recent Pigou scholars have clarified what Pigou actually said and did, with the result that certain misconceptions about him have now been cleared away. The authors of the present book, Nahid Aslanbeigui especially, are long-time Pigou scholars (although still probably best known for work on Joan Robinson and Edward Chamberlin) and are in a particularly good position to summarize and round off the recent blossoming of studies on Pigou, thereby establishing a foundation for further research. Despite being published in a series, their book is clearly the fruit of serious collective academic research.
