Karen Harvey is Senior Lecturer in Cultural History at the University of Sheffield. Her research focuses on the British long eighteenth century, with a particular emphasis on gender. Her published works include Reading Sex in the Eighteenth Century: Bodies and Gender in English Erotic Culture (Cambridge University Press, 2005), and (ed.) The Kiss in History (Manchester University Press, 2005). Her research interests are in masculinity, print culture (both visual and textual), material culture, and what might be termed the more 'impolite' aspects of the eighteenth century. She is currently completing two book projects: Domesticating Patriarchy: Male Authority in the Eighteenth-Century English Home (for Oxford University Press), and (ed.) History and Material Culture (for Routledge).
