摘要

Lisa S. Banu is an assistant professor of design history in the School of Visual and Performing Arts at Purdue University. Her academic background includes a bachelor's degree in architecture from the University of Houston and a doctorate in philosophy from the New School for Social Research in New York City. Her current research explores design in the context of postcolonial identity construction, democracy and immigrant experience. In particular, she is investigating early-twentieth-century attempts to articulate American design identity between the decorative and industrial arts in the works of Ernest Batchelder, Holger Cahill and the Index of American Design.rnDavid Brody is an assistant professor in the School of Art and Design History and Theory at Parsons The New School for Design, New York. He is the co-editor (along with Dr Hazel Clark) of Design Studies: A Reader (Berg, 2009). He is also the author of the forthcoming book Visualizing American Empire: Orientalism and Imperialism in the Philippines (University of Chicago Press, 2010).
