The Joint ADSA/Interbull Breeding and GeneticsSymposia titled “Ten Years of Genomic Selection” and“Data Pipelines for Implementation of Genomic Evaluationof Novel Traits” were held at the 2019 ADSA AnnualMeeting, from June 23 to 26, in Cincinnati, Ohio.The objective of the first symposium was to provide abroad overview of 10 years of genomic selection in dairycattle. In 2009, genomic evaluations were first implementedin the United States and Canada, followed overtime by evaluations in many other countries. The rapiduptake of genomic selection has had a dramatic effecton the dairy industry. This symposium highlighted thedevelopment and impact of this implementation in alldairy breeds and outlined new developments and futurescenarios. The objective of the second symposium wasto provide an international view of recent worldwide advanceson the development of new data pipelines, withthe overall objective of implementing genetic evaluationsfor novel traits in the era of genomics. The adventof genomics has created an opportunity to focus on andselect for expensive traits, which was not feasible withtraditional selection. This symposium provided variousexamples of national and international initiatives topool data across countries or organizations to exploitthe potential of accurate genomic evaluation for noveland expensive traits
