Er~(3+)/Yb~(3+) -codoped Ca_3Y_2(BO_3)_4 crystal with dimension Φ20 x 40mm~3 has been grown by the Czochralski method. The absorption and emission spectra of Er~(3+)/Yb~(3+) :Ca_3Y_2(BO_3)_4 crystal have been investigated. The absorption band at 900-1050nm has an absorption coefficient of 12cm~(-1) and FWHM of 8.5nm. A strong emission band at 1450-1650nm due to the ~4I_(13/2) → ~4I_(15/2) transition of Er~(3+) was observed. The fluorescence lifetime is about 3.29ms. The process of energy transfer from the Yb~(3+) to the Er~(3+) was explained in Er~(3+)/Yb~(3+) :Ca_3Y_2(BO_3)_4 crystal.
