The Europeanisation of Social Protection

This volume of comparative essays has its origin in a conference in 2006, organised under the EU Finnish Presidency. Its objective was to look at the future for national social protection systems and of the European Social Model against the challenges of increasing internationalisation, global competition and the demographic trends of individual states.rnThis is an area of social policy largely left to member states under the principles of subsidiarity and proportionality, although the reality is that such matters are increasingly influenced by the EU, much more so than was anticipated a decade ago. So much for national autonomy!
