Continuity and Change in the Baltic Sea Region. Comparing Foreign Policies

This relatively compact work (184 pages) successfully explains the plethora of security and geopolitical issues pertaining to and affecting the Baltic States. The authors make a compelling argument for the need of continuing the practices of the close coordination of the foreign policies of the three countries, interestingly not just in relation to their traditional security concern, namely Moscow, but now also in relation to Brussels. They place this strategic imperative in the context of the broader history of the region, particularly its brief interlude of inter-war independence and the subsequent era of Soviet subjugation. Unfortunately, some of the conclusions they draw from the assessment of the situation tend to ignore the changing dynamics of world politics.
