摘要

Comparisons of the ongoing crisis in Europe's political economy with the Great Depression of the 1930s are clearly justified in terms of both the severity of the downturn and its structural origins in the excesses of financial markets. Whether the medium- to long-term consequences of Europe's current crisis will match in scale those of the 1930s and beyond is a matter of speculation.
