Fado Resounding: Affective Politics and Urban Life

Fado Resounding explores a genre of music known as fado-which simply means 'fate'. Yet to the Portuguese 'fado' has a rich and complex meaning, embodying suffering, yearning and an acceptance that destiny is beyond man's control. Rather than presenting an exposition of the main features of fado music, its repertoire and its performance practices, Gray here offers an ethnographic account of the genre's effect on Portugal's national and cultural narratives.
