摘要

A finite element method of distortional buckling analysis is described briefly, in which the frequently applied 12 degree of freedom beam-type element is extended to a 16 degree of freedom formulation. This extension allows the buckling of beams with a variety of elastic restraints to be modeled accurately. The finite element method is then applied to a cantilever beam with a tip load. A variety of restraints are considered, as would be experienced in purlin/sheeting systems that restrain the beam. Conclusions are drawn regarding the buckling response of elastically restrained cantilevers.
