Vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs) supportsafety- and non-safety-related applications thatrequire the transmission of emergency safety messagesand periodic beacon messages. The dedicated short-rangecommunication (DSRC) standard in VANETs is used toexchange safety messages, and is involved in multi-hopdata dissemination and routing. Many researchershave focused either on emergency data disseminationor routing, but both are critical. Routing protocols arecommonly used for position-based routing and distancebasedrouting. This paper focuses on both emergencydata dissemination and multi-hop routing, with theselection of the best data disseminator and trustworthyforwarder. To select the best forwarder, ring partitioningis performed, which segregates vehicles into rings basedon the coverage area for routing. Each partition is selectedwith a best forwarder, which minimizes the hop count fordata transmission. The work also includes effective videotransmission for a user’s request. Video transmissionin VANETs is involved in this work to provide efficientvideo delivery between rapidly travelling vehicles withreduced delay owing to the selection of good-qualitychannels. Video transmission is prioritized according toframe types, and they are then transmitted with respectto the preference of channels. The major issue in videostreaming is the loss of packets, which is our focus tominimize it. Our proposed VANET environment issimulated in OMNeT++, and the results show remarkableimprovements in terms of the packet delivery ratio, end-to-end delay, and reliability.
