Blast to the 1950s: A Breakfast Interview With Anna McCarthy on Television and Citizenship

On October 19, 2010, Anna McCarthy, associate professor of cinema studies at New York University and coeditor of the journal Social Text, visited the University of Iowa to give the 2010 Hitchcock Lecture in the Department of Communication Studies. On the morning of her lecture, Journal of Communication Inquiry (JCI) had an opportunity to interview Anna McCarthy about her recently released book, The Citizen Machine: Governing by Television in 1950s America and her other scholarly works. The interview, which took place over breakfast at the University of Iowa's River Room Cafe, was conducted by Hye Jin Lee, Dana Gravesen.
