The Use of Casting/Release Papers to Control Surface Aesthetics of Cast Plastic Webs

THE BULK OF this paper will be focused on the largest segment of the cast- ing industry-synthetic leather, and more specifically, that part that casting paper plays in it. A short time will be spent looking at the history and current status of the casting paper market. We'll take a quick look at the requirements of a casting/release paper and briefly become familiar with a typical modern casting line. Then a more in depth look will be taken at the part the release paper plays in the final aesthetics of the finished product. We'll cover several of the techniques that a caster can use in combination with the release paper to both vary and enhance the end product's visual appearance and then in- vestigate the various release papers available today and take a look at the place of each in the market. Finally, some the release paper aesthetic tech- nologies on the horizon will be covered.
