Partnership or self-reliance: prescriptions for small and medium-sized enterprises

The past decade has witnessed the growing importance of partnerships by small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Partnerships here are defined as administrative arrangements to govern an incomplete contract between separate firms where eachrnpartner has limited control. The arrangements can take various forms, ranging from joint R&D programs to cooperative marketing arrangements, though all aim at governing joint decision making by partners.
