Discussant Comment on Whistleblowing Intentions of Lower-Level Employees: The Effect of Reporting Channel, Bystanders, and Wrongdoer Power Status by Jingyu Gao, Robert Greenberg, Bernard Wong-On-Wing
Gao et al. (this issue) examine the whistleblowing intentions of business students, who serve as surrogates for lower-level employees. The study manipulates the anonymous reporting channel administrator, the presence of bystanders, and the wrongdoer's power status. In my commentary, I will discuss three issues. First, I will comment on the construct and operationalization of "lower-level employees." Second, I will comment on the prior research findings as it relates to the current study's focus on lower-level employees. Third, I will suggest further research.
