EDITORIAL

摘要

In this latest issue of JBIS we are very pleased to bring you some more papers from the 2011 100 Year Starship Symposium, which took place on October 2011, Orlando, Florida, USA. Although some may be wondering why in 2014 we are still publishing papers from an event which took place several years ago, it is important to understand the reasons. During the 2011 meeting, JBIS was the only external organisation to get a mention in the DARPA/NASA programme, having secured the arrangement to publish as many as the papers as we could, subject to our peer review requirements. Because many of the authors were not experienced writers, and indeed for quite a few this represents their first ever academic technical publication, it has been necessary to work with each author individually to help bring the papers up to standard. There is also the issue that there were so many papers, which have to fit within our print cycle, yet our commitment to DARPA/NASA remains, hence we are publishing as many of them as we can, no matter how long it takes, as a record of this milestone public event.
