With an increasing number of listeners regarding the Internet as their primary means of access to broadcast material, the handling of streamed delivery is no longer an option for broadcasters. The question is now how to do it in a way that is most cost-effective and that delivers the best user experience, as well as how to ensure that potential listeners can find the stations they want to listen. Conventional broadcast signal processing, designed for AM or FM delivery, is rarely appropriate for dealing with audio destined for low bit-rate codecs and networked delivery.
