Electrical, Electronics Output Drives Malaysia's Manufacturing Sector Onward

Strong demand locally and abroad is spurring Malaysia's manufacturing sector to successively greater production scales. In 1994, this sector's output accelerated to a 14.6 percent growth rate, compared with 12.8 percent in 1993. That gain shows up in Malaysia's Index of Industrial Production, which measures the rate of change of industrial production over time. For the sector, the index reached 214.9 points in 1994, using 1988 as the 100-point mark. The 1994 level compares with 187.6 points in 1993. For the first quarter of 1995, the sector posted a gain of 15.2 percent from the corresponding period of 1994.
