World Semiconductor Market To Grow 7.4% This Year

Worldwide, markets for semiconductors could grow 7.4 percent this year. If those predictions come true, the market scale will top US$134.82. billion (about ¥14.7 trillion). Price cuts will continue to affect memory chips during the first half of the year, but market values eventually will grow in proportion to sales volumes. As a result, semiconductor markets will recover by the second half of the year. DRAM trends will see the leading microchip makers accelerating the shift from 16- to 64M-bit DRAMs. Monthly production capacities for the 64M-bit devices will reach 1 million to 3 million units by the year's end.
