Exhibition: la France en Relief'

摘要

The collection of plans-reliefs (relief maps), three-dimensional models of cities and their surrounding countryside, was begun under Louis XIV and greatly expanded under Napoleon I. They were originally military tools to study the state of border fortress towns and also served as symbols of possession and control. An exhibition last year at the Grand Palais in Paris showed how the plans-reliefs continue to be powerful tools of territorial control.
