Engaging the Future fills a gaping hole in the library of books for planning practitioners. Attempts to understand, predict, or prepare for the future are at the core of planning. Visioning and scenarios are used extensively at all scales of planning. Scenario planning, one of the book's focuses, is practiced throughout the country, but was relatively uncommon in planning only 10 years ago. So, while wonderful experimentation is being explored through scenarios, there has been a vacuum of texts aimed at practitioners providing a clear compendium of recommendations from experts about how to make scenario efforts more fruitful.
