The effect of missile turn rate on aircraft susceptibility to an infrared (IR)-guided missile has been illustrated. The maximum lethal range increases with an increase in the missile turn rate. It is observed that, for m = 0.5 and missile turn rate restricted to 16 deg /s, there is 35% reduction in the area of lethal envelope compared to the no-restriction case. Thus, there is a decrease in aircraft susceptibility in tune of 35%. The area of lethal envelope increases with an increase in missile turn rate. The lethal range has a maximum value for the case S-infinity. But practically, no missile could have infinite turn-rate capabilities. For the same value of missile turn rate, as the velocity of the missile approaches that of the aircraft, the area of lethal envelope decreases. It is found that the missile turn rate has a strong impact on aircraft susceptibility to an IR-guided missile.
