Special issue on The Air Transport Research Society (ATRS) Conference, Rio de Janeiro, 2005

摘要

The 2005 Air Transport Research Society (ATRS) Conference was held on 3-6 July in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. This year it attracted over 250 participants and more than 130 presentations. As in previous years the conference enjoyed strong industry support from major corporations, with the chief sponsor being Embraer, the Brazilian aircraft manufacturer. The aim of the ATRS is to bring together those researching into air transportation issues be they in universities, governments, industry, or consultancy. The papers presented cover a wide range of disciplines, although the primary focus is on economics, public policy, operations and management issues. From the many high quality papers submitted the editors have the difficult task of selecting a handful of papers to enter a refereeing process for eventual publication in a special issue of the JATM. In this issue we have chosen five papers covering various topics: airport privatization, ownership structure and performance; factors for improving performance of passenger security screening; future of global distribution systems; inter-regional open skies agreement for the ASEAN countries; and strategic issues on multilateral airline alliances.
