Safety Culture Is Equally Important in UAS

As an industry-government partnership committed to ensuring the safe operations of UAS in the NAS, one of the Unmanned Aircraft Safety Team's (UAST) missions is to facilitate the adoption of the same safety culture within the remote pilot community that has served manned aviation so well.111 Often taken for granted, traveling by air is one of the safest places to be on the planet. This is not something that happened by accident. Your laptop might crash and your cellphone might go a bit wonky, but when it comes to Boeing 737s flying at 36,000 feet, unsafe operations are just not an option. This tremendous achievement is the result of experienced, dedicated professionals working together towards a common goal. And that goal is zero: zero accidents, zero injuries, and zero mid-air collisions. At its essence, this is the safety culture that the UAS industry must embrace.
