Addressing the Belarusian Interception of Ryanair 4978

Unfortunately, the Belarusian interception of Ryanair 4978 was not a violation of international law. However, it was a brutal violation of the norms that guarantee the safety and security of international civil aviation. While no one was hurt through the interception process, the precedent that was set, that the safety of international flights can be jeopardized by a State's quest to silence dissidents, cannot be allowed to stand.
