We wish to thank Alemu (2005) for his comments on our paper (Allen and Tadesse, 2003), and welcome the opportunity to reply to his remarks. Alemu disagrees with our interpretations in three areas: (1) tectonic subdivision of the be (2) interpretation of the structural evolution of the be and (3) interpretation of the tectonic setting of the belt.
