Jake Kubrin, Resource Sharing at Holy Names University in Oakland, California, asked the ILL list how long others wait before sending an invoice for lost materials. The answers reflected ambiguity. Few had an exact timetable. Typically, one answered that he waited a month but wasn't consistent about it. One poster pointed out that in many cases the borrowing library uses the invoice to convince the borrower of the urgency of the matter. So they are pleased when the bill shows up. More than one poster said they only send a bill after several warnings. A side issue that surfaced in this thread was that many libraries prefer a replacement copy rather than a paid bill.
