An international conference on high-speed railways held in Tokyo in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the start of Shinkansen train operation

The International High-speed Railway Association (IHRA), Central Japan Railway Company (JR Central), West Japan Railway Company (JR West) and Kyushu Railway Company (JR Kyushu) hosted an event titled International High-Speed Rail Conference: High-Speed Rail Accelerating toward the Future on October 22 at a hotel in Tokyo to mark the 50th anniversary of the Tokaido Shinkansen's opening. The 304 attendees included 71 from 11 other countries such as the United States, Australia, Taiwan and Malaysia. Participants shared information and views on the expected benefits of high-speed transportation and on related social responsibilities through presentations on Japanese Shinkansen systems and panel displays given by staff involved in the planning of rapid-train network deployment.
