Development of a New Type Earthing System Aimed at Lightning Protection

摘要

The earthing system at a substation is important equipment for earth faults and lightning protection. However, the performance of the conventional system is not enough for high frequency phenomena like lightning strikes, because the conventional system is designed for low frequency phenomena like earth fault. The authors developed a new type earthing system by using high frequency wires and open and coated earth wires in parallel. The measurement result shows that the new type earthing system can reduce the overvoltage caused by lightning strikes by 50%.
