Monitoring of Track Maintenance - In Pursuit of Condition-based Maintenance (CBM)

The East Japan Railway Company (JR East) adopted a track facility monitoring system to pursue condition-based maintenance (CBM) for the maintenance of track facilities. Specifically, a track facility monitoring system consisting of a track irregularity monitoring device and a track material monitoring device is mounted on commercial trains to collect data on track conditions at high frequency and these data are used to optimize maintenance. This article describes adoption of the track facility monitoring system and its applications.
