Pakistan is expected to receive its first US-built Oliver Hazard Perry-class antisubmarine warfare frigate in August 2010 following approval by President George W Bush on 17 October. USS Mclnerney will complete a free transfer under an Excess Defence Article arrangement that allows the frigate to be given to a major non-NATO ally. Pakistan has requested USD65 million of refurbishment work and a weapons fitment as the ship was laid down in November 1977 and is the oldest Oliver Hazard Perry-class ship still in US service. Mclnerney is currently being used by the US Navy for trials of Northrop Grumman's Fire Scout vertical take-off and landing unmanned aerial vehicle.
