BAE Systems prepares UK 155 mm gun for live firing demonstration

BAE Systems is planning a first live-fire demonstration in December under the 155 mm Third Generation Maritime Fire Support (TMF) programme for the UK Royal Navy (RN).rnHowever, the land-based event could prove to be the swansong for the programme unless the Ministry of Defence (MoD) provides funding for further development, including at-sea trials.rnThe live-firing will utilise a Mk 8 Mod 1 mounting, as installed in RN destroyers and frigates, but swaprnthe existing 114 mm (4.5 in) gun for a 155 mm/52-calibre barrel from the British Army's AS90 Braveheart self-propelled howitzer programme.
