摘要

Maritime matters today and their relationship to wider global security interests are generating greater levels of national policy interest. Maintaining good order at sea, securing Sea Lines of Communication (SLOCs) as well as the maritime infrastructure to maintain access to trade and energy resources, and finding new opportunities for naval, cross-government, and international co-operation, are all components of a wider, more routine process of global policy thinking about maritime security. Issues such as the 2012 London Olympic Games, instability in the Middle East and North African regions, and the countering of illegal activities in Caribbean and African waters have presented opportunities for governments and their maritime forces to come together with other like-minded nations to develop maritime security frameworks.
