Babcock achieves milestone on KSS-Ⅲ submarine weapon-handling system

Babcock has completed the design definition of the Weapon Handling System (WHS) for South Korea's KSS-Ⅲ submarine programme, the company announced on 25 September. Babcock was awarded a contract in 2009 by Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME) to design the Weapon Handling and Launch System (WHLS) for the 3,000 tonne submarine, and to manufacture the equipment for the first two boats of the class. DSME was itself contracted in 2012 to build the first two boats of what could be a class of nine.
