A Systems Perspective: Current Solutions for Retrofit and New-build Submarines

In the last decade Airbus DS Optronics invested significantly in the spiral upgrade to existing systems and the development of new systems. This aggressive own-funded development was driven by the current trends in submarine operations, advances in technology allowing more functionality in the limited space and, more importantly, by the qualified assumptions of what submarines would want in future years. This means that Airbus DS Optronics today is capable of offering a complete range of periscopes and optronic masts to meet the requirements of modern submarines, and to enable them to meet the challenges of the future. With a range of optronic mast systems (OMS) to complement traditional periscopes, the company is ideally placed to offer solutions for a wide range of submarines, from midget subs to the largest vessels.
