Common by design: Norway and Germany partner to evolve Type 212CD submarine

On 2 February 2017 the Norwegian government decided to pursue a strategic co-operation with Germany covering the procurement of new submarines, together with joint training and exercises, a shared spares inventory, and co-operative maintenance and lifetime management. The move was publicly announced the following day by then minister of defence Ine Eriksen Soreide, who at the same time outlined the wider ambition for a long-term partnership with Germany on the procurement and support of naval materiel.
