The UK and France have jointly funded missile house MBDA to start exploratory studies for a putative next-generation naval and land attack missile system to enter service after 2025. Revealed in an Anglo-French summit declaration on 17 February, the outline programme - known as the Future Cruise Anti-Ship Weapon (FC ASW) - had in fact been established under the framework of a joint Declaration on Defence and Security Co-operation agreed in November 2010. However, the project had hitherto been hidden in a classified annexe.
