Aerojet Rocketdyne, Northrop Grumman demo large-scale scramjet technologies

Aerojet Rocketdyne (now part of Lockheed Martin) and Northrop Grumman have demonstrated large scale scramjet technologies by testing engines with thrust levels exceeding 5,897 kg as part of the US Air Force's (USAF's) Medium Scale Critical Components (MSCC) test programme.USAF spokesman Bryan Ripple said on 29 December 2020 that the service will move forward with larger scale, multimission platforms at speeds greater than Mach 5 because both propulsion systems met the service's performance expectations. The MSCC sets the foundation for the design of hypersonic propulsion systems across a broad range of vehicle scale and Mach operability.
