First in the water: BE/NL future MCM capability blazes a trail for the toolbox model

It has become widely accepted that the offboard 'system of systems' concept represents the future for mine counter-measures (MCM), but it was a long journey before navies, defence science, and industry were confident that this new concept of operations could deliver the required effect, tempo, and resilience. Although unmanned technologies and autonomous systems are maturing fast, the manner and effect of their use has generated unanswered questions with regard to personnel, training, infrastructure, and concepts and doctrine.
