Fighting chance: UAV concept seeks to altar the air power equation

In March the XQ.-58A Valkyrie unmanned combat air system (UCAS) demonstrator made its maiden flight above the Yuma Proving Ground in Arizona. Developed by the Unmanned Systems division of Kratos Defence and Security Solutions in partnership with the US Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL), the XQ-58A is considered the poster child for a new air power trend that seeks to break the traditional tyrannies existing between cost and capability, and exploit 'disruptive' technologies to offset advantages or advances in adversary anti-access, area denial (A2/AD) capabilities.
