Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS), particularly GPS, are an ever-present feature of modern life, but they provide more than the positional information with which they are associated and of which anyone who has a GPS-enabled smart-phone can take advantage. GNSS are the principal source of not only locational data but also highly accurate timing, providing what is known as PNT (Position, Navigation, and Timing). It is not only military operations that are dependent on highly accurate and reliable PNT, as commercial activities such as banking, stock markets, utilities, and transport also rely on it.
