Usn Aegis Oa Weapon System Goes Live

Lockheed Martin completed initial tests of its Aegis Open Architecture Weapon System (OAWS) onboard the Ticonderoga-class cruiser USS Bunker Hill in late August, writes Fay Brigden. The tests were completed on schedule, looking towards delivery in February 2009. Bunker Hill received the OAWS installation as part of the US Navy (USN) Cruiser Modernization Program and the Aegis COTS Refresh 2 phase, which includes the full open architecture setup and a range of new displays. OAWS has also made a series of test firings from the USN's 'Desert Ship' facility at White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico.
