A new suite of aircraft recovery aids has formally entered service aboard the UK Royal Navy's (RN) two aircraft carriers (CVS), HMS Illustrious and HMS Ark Royal. Known as SARA (Ships Approach and Recovery Aids), the system comprises a marin-ised tactical air navigation (TACAN) system and a precision approach radar (PAR).
