BMT's new high capability submarine design surfaces

UK-based naval-architecture and systems-engineering group BMT Defence Services has unveiled a concept for a high-capability oceangoing non-nuclear submarine largely based on proven military and commercial off-the-shelf technologies.rnKnown as Vidar-36 - Vidar being the Norse god of silence and vengeance - the concept has been developed as an InSpira research and development project to meet perceived requirements for a long-range, high-endurance, multimission submarine, operating in both oceanic and coastal waters, affording land-attack, anti-surface, anti-submarine and special-operations capabilities. InSpira is a mul-tidisciplinary, BMT resource used to research future design concepts.
