ENVGs for 10th Mountain Division

The US Army's 10th Mountain Division became the first regular unit after the special forces to be equipped with ITT Night Vision's new AN/PSQ-20 Enhanced Night-Vision Goggle (ENVG) in February, with around 300 units being fielded, writes Kate Tringham.rnA successor to the AN/PVS-14 Monocular Night-Vision Device, the ENVG optically combines a long-wave infrared (IR) image from a thermal camera with one from an enhanced image-intensification tube into a single integrated system. The resulting image allows soldiers to see through total darkness without losing the capability to make out details and use weapon-mounted aiming sensors. This increases individual mobility and situational awareness, day or night, in all weather and degraded battlefield conditions.
