The UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) is responding to calls from Afghanistan's frontline for a rifle-mounted sniper detection system.rnAccording to military sources, UK forces operating as part of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Helmand province have been calling for such a system to aid target acquisition during contacts.rnAlthough not yet adopted as an urgent operational requirement (UOR), demands for a rifle-mounted system have taken the form of an "urgent statement of user requirement" from UK forces. The device would be designed for light-role troops operating in the field without vehicles and is expected to be a reactive, acoustic solution as opposed to a pro-active, electro-optical system.
