Marshall proves versatile vehicle remote-control kit in UK MoD trial

Marshall Systems Design Group (SDG) displayed a prototype kit to transform standard vehicles into remotely controlled drones at a demonstration in late September, writes Nick Brown.rnThe kit was developed under contract to the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) in early 2010 and tested on a Snatch Land Rover as a potential option to re-role some of the UK's surplus Snatch types as sensor platforms, ambush lures, improvised explosive device triggers and general force-protection assets.rnJohn Harris, managing director of Marshall SDG, told Jane's that the only modification to the vehicle was to swap out the manual gearbox for an automatic one to simplify the vehicle controls.
